Album : Once upon a time (Amacahu) [ENG]

Apologies to Lounis Ait-Menguellet for the bits I’ve undoubtedly got wrong. But it’s better to see through a crack in the door, Lounis, than to be in total darkness…

Once upon a time…
(Amacahu)

Our peaceful homes
Became a barbed prison
The doors slammed shut
Against our cries and calls
Their voices answer us:
“You in there. Be silent!”

Once upon a time…
The knife threatens the throat
How can truth leave the mouth?
Once upon a time…
Our people were sacrificed
Without our retaliation

Bitter is the treason
Of those we believed in
Since time began they warned us
Against a life of slavery
So that the last of us is avenged.

How much did they tell us?
And the way they showed us
Who knows where it will lead?
They made their deals on our heads
They decided our fate without us
And grabbed the authority

Once upon a time…
They bound tight our eyes
And told us what we see
Once upon a time…
We saw what they wanted
They led us where they chose

One day could bring
The solidarity we search for
Since time began they warned us
Against a life of slavery
So that the last of us is avenged.

Now that we are exhausted
We gorge ourselves on stories
We retell our heroes
With their glorious past
No one humiliated them

Once upon a time…
The echo sounds from the mountain
Fear seizes the children
Once upon a time…
With bare hands they faced death
The enemy disorientated

Finally, at the end?
Which will be the solution?
Since time began they warned us
Against a life of slavery
So that the last of us is avenged.
